I just emerged idesk and got a segmentation fault when starting it. I upgraded to the new 0.5.5 version, but to no avail. I am running Xfree 4.3.0-r2, and Freetype 2.1.4. These were the recommended versions in the 'idesk' thread in this forum, but I still have the same problem. It doesn't appear to be a hardware problem (as seg faults usually indicate) due to the memory test running smoothly (Memtest86). If I can't use iDesk, what other alternatives do I have for Fluxbox and desktop icons (possibly with transparency?)??

In my experience Idesk Segfaulting can be caused by some images you use as icons.
I had to tinker a bit with the sizes for it to work correctly. Can't say if the same problem is still in the 0.5.5 version but it might be worth checking.

It can also be something as simple as a bad image link. If the file doesn't exist, iDesk never shows up. :)
Other bad configuration options may have the same effect, I'm not sure.

turns out it was my fault all along.. I was using a sample '.lnk' file which had the icon position set outside of my screen (I'm at 1024x768, the icon position was 2041x...)... thanks for the suggestions!! Hopefully this thread will help someone out who also has this problem sometime in the future...
