OK, so I am trying to figure out a new email system, but I am overwhelmed by all the postfix documentation. I know what the outcome needs to be, but I am unsure how to get there. Maybe someone can help point me in the right direction. I'll explain what I use right now.

Quick breakdown. 1 domain (we'll call it mycompnay.com), 1 main mail server, 1 main branch, 5 remote branch companies (we'll call them branch1, branch2, etc). All email address use the firstname.lastname@mycompany.com format.
Currently, when email comes in for a remote branch, I have them setup as a user on the mail server (probably redundant), and an alias setup in the /etc/aliases file (eg. bob.smith: bob.smith@branch1.mycompany.com). The remote branch has a "local" mail server running postfix that has just the users for that branch setup. The remote mail server accepts the mail and saves it in /var/spool/mail/bob.smith. The user then just pops their local mail server to receive their mail.

Now, this setup works just fine for us. However, I would like to implement some other SPAM filtering (right now all we use is SQLgrey; which works great, but we need more layers, ability for users to send spam emails back to server, etc. I have found that ASSP would work great for this.) The problem with our current setup is that the remote users email appears to have been sent from our "main mail server", so when the users wants to report SPAM it is a real b*tch to figure out who the initial sender was (and I have to do this all manually).
Anyway, to get to the real question for this post is: How do I setup Postfix to "relay" these remote branch emails so that they don't lose the original senders address? In other words, I would like the remote branch emails to appear to have come straight from the Internet (like our local users emails do). I don't want the remote users email address to look like bob.smith@branch1.mycompany.com in the final email, I want it to look like bob.smith@mycompany.com. From what I have read so far, I have to setup Postfix with virtual domains, users, etc... but I can't really find a specific example for my situation. Anyone have a good howto/tutorial/solution for this? I am sure this is pretty simple, and I am just making it harder than it has to be. The SPAM filtering is not my main question, so if you could please just help me with the initial postfix setup, I can go on from there.
BTW, I am reading this page: http://www.postfix.org/VIRTUAL_README.html
Thanks, Andrew |
