|
|
Hi. I installed KDE 4 from portage, while keeping my current 3.5 installation, reading that there weren't any problems using the two together. However i have a couple of minor annoyances. The K menu in kde 3.5 now has redundant entries for all kde 4 programs, which both effectively open the 3.5 version of the program as this is where the path is set. Other applications, such as okular, have become default for some file formats but are not found as they are not in the correct path. I manually removed all redundant menu entries, but after logging in kde 4 they are all back...
How can i correct this??
Thanks in advance
PS i also use kdeshutdown, which has stopped working. is this because i am now using kdm 4? _________________ # "Hmm, sounds like your system froze up."

Sorry now answer. but I'm experiencing the same thing with kde-5.3 and kde-svn. Would be great if someone had a fix. I can't even seem to figure out how the KDE menu gets generated...it seems like it's put together from a thousand different files... |

I have this problem as well. Also a bunch of the items in the kde 3.5 menu have also lost their icons. |

Did you guys follow this guide
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde4.xml ?
For instance
Quote: | The startkde script
It is not recommended to let KDE 3.5 and KDE 4.0 share the same configuration files. To prevent that the startkde scripts rewrite the ~/.kde symlink while KDE starts. This means that when you're in a KDE 4.0 session your configuration from KDE 3.5 will be unavailable and vice versa.

It looks like you are using the same config files for both versions. |

I am using KDM which also switches the symlink - the same problem exists.
I've already described it in KDE4 thread. _________________ Core2Duo e6300 | Asus P5B-V | 3 GB RAM | kernel 2.6.24 | KDE 3.5.9 + 4.0.0 |
