|

When XMMS is started the Volume Control is set to 0, but the music still plays. When you try and move the Volume Control bar it does nothing, this shouldn't be, should it?
Using Alsa 0.9.2, KDE 3.1.2, XMMS is using the ARTSD output plug-in, tried with different plug-ins, most of them don't work since they aren't compatible with ARTSD. Tried starting XMMS with artsdsp, artsdsp -m, and just directly executing the executable, none effect the Volume Control issue.
The issue is solved by disabling ARTSD and changing the output plug-in, but that isn't a very favorable option since most of KDE is designed to use ARTSD, there appears to be no other alternative yet though, so perhaps someone has a better suggestion or a fix for this problem?
Thanks in advanced, all help is greatly appreciated! _________________ The idea of achieving security through national armament is, at the present state of military technique, a disastrous illusion. |

If you have ALSA installed, I imagine you want to use the ALSA output plugin for XMMS.
then set the output plugin of XMMS to be ALSA. Check the configure part of the output pluging ot make sure that your soundcard is indeed present with ALSA. If so, then
Code: | $ amixer
$ amixer set Master 100 unmute
$ amixer set PCM 100 unmute
|
You can now try playing a song in XMMS. Note that after you have unmuted ALSA you can adjust it's volume using alsamixer or by simply using XMMS.
I hope that works. I don't have much experience with ARTSd but I do use ALSA and that is how it works for me.
Good luck |

My apologies, I read your problem wrong. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with ARTSd.
I'm sure someone else does... (c'mon guys and gals!) |

I use the eSound plugin with the alsa drivers installed and my volume on xmms works. Make sure that on the eSound configure the "volume controls OSS mixer" is unchecked. |

xmms-arts is masked and says it isn't supported anymore. Don't know if it is a bug in the plugin. |

I had the same problem, xmms and artsd wouldn't play nicely. Came here for help, didn't find it. Then i went searching myself. I went to Options-Preferences and on AudioI/O Plugins I changed OSS Driver to eSound OutPut Plugin. Quit xmms, reran it and now everything works fine.
