Has anyone considered developing a tool for Gentoo Linux that uses a BitTorrent-like approach to the "emerge" tool? All users of Gentoo (many of us) could optionally run a service that shares their locally stored (previously downloaded) sources. Then we wouldn't be taxing external servers so much. This would especially be useful as Gentoo increases in userbase.
Just a suggestion I had to get off my mind... |

I think this is a good idea from the base but I dont think it will work well...
Maybe for OpenOffice and others big program like that but the majority of program is less than 4-5 meg. And Bittorrent dont perform well for small file like this.
Anyway, if this project come from light, I will run Bittorent for sharing my file to help Gentoo! |
