i couldnt find any man/info page on this, and i dont know the commands to find the relevant man pages, so here goes:

what are all the basic user commands, and what do they do? eg create a user, add/remove a user to a group, create the home directories/config files

useradd/adduser is used to add users to the system

useradd -d /home/scandium -G group1,group2 -m -s /bin/bash $USERNAME

-d specifies the home dir
-G is used for adding the user to groups which the user is also a member of. Each group is separated from the next by a comma, with no intervening whitespace
-m creates the home directory
-s specifies the shell
$USERNAME = the login name of the new user

Afterwards you should do
passwd $USERNAME
to set the user's password

I hope this helps a bit

You will certainly find interesting the LPI articles at http://www.gentoo.org/index-articles.html.

I am not saying this sarcastically -- it's how I got started in *nix:

1) ls /usr/bin and /usr/X11R6/bin
2) start reading man pages on what you find there (for starters)
