For a while I've been waiting for a nice 2D shooter. Found one thanks to http://freegamer.blogspot.com/ Just a heads up to anyone looking for something similar.
Teewars!
http://www.teewars.com/
Very nice, polished.. a community is already established. Could use some more weapons and maps, but it's only version 0.3.4.
Binaries on website worked out of the box for me. This bug has an ebuild, albeit outdated, but likely working with a name modification.
The license does not permit redistribution of modified binaries, but according to this thread it should have a much more liberal license with the release of 0.4.0. |

Also, You can find ebuild for bonus maps (jeppo and munyul) in roslin overlay (check signature for more info).
There's also a SVN version, if someone wants latest changes.
0.4 should be able to autodownload missing maps into ~/.teewars/maps from the server. _________________ roslin uberlay | grubelek |

I found this a couple of weeks ago, its a great fast paced little game. As already mentioned its very polished and really just needs more maps.
I'm running amd64 and also found that the supplied binaries worked out of the box although for fun i did compile it from source also.

@supernovae
You can check out their forums, community made some additional maps. The bad part of it is that almost noone plays on them... It will change with "autodownload maps" I think. (-: _________________ roslin uberlay | grubelek |

Tell me something about the game-play.. my english is not the best and the screenshot's are not enough.
Is this a multiplayer-Game like Worms?
Is it realtime or turn based?
Have i to play this with frinds on one pc or it's just lan/internet based?
Is this a shoot em up or have i to jump on the heads of other bunn äh.. flying pacman's?
regards Chris

Just try it, it's not a 200+ megabyte download like VDrift (maybe not 200+, but huge anyway) or something. (-;
It is fully playable, You *have* to play on lan/internet, there is no "hot seat". The gameplay is more like Liero (or some clone like Gusanos/Open LieroX/more clones ;).
Also, you can check Teewars forum, they have some documentation translations.
BTW: Look out, game play is FAST. _________________ roslin uberlay | grubelek |

Good Work. To the developers.
It would be nice if its find a way into portage.

This is a fantastic game, very polished and great fun on a LAN with friends.
The only inconvenience at the moment is when adding a new map to our rotation we have to make sure everyone has the map before hand. I believe this will change in v0.4 where clients can auto-download from the server. (Edit: I see lazy_bum already mentioned this, oops) |

JFYI, yes they've done it. But the game is called Teeworlds now, for some reason. |

about that, I tried using the instructions you noted in your .sig, but I keep getting
sudo layman -ka roslin
* Overlay "roslin" does not exist! |
