Firstly I apologize for posting a sound issue(as if there aren't already enough) but I can't seem to find a solution

alsaconf found and configured my ALC888 fine under the hda-intel drivers,
and any program that I can emerge with the USE="alsa" flag ( Mplayer, PulseAudio ) works fine w/ audio,
but if I cant use the USE="alsa" flag ( Wesnoth, VirtualBoyAdvance ) then the program works but it give me the error "no audio devices installed" and there is no sound.

Here's my lspci if it helps...

wesnoth appears to use sdl, so make sure you have libsdl emerged with alsa in USE too.

If it's only a couple of applications which wont work, then the problem is with those applications (or a lib they use) and not alsa.

You could try alsa's oss emulation (you need it configured in the kernel, though).
If it's enabled, you can make good use of /etc/portage/package.use and emerge just a couple of problematic packages with oss support.

Thank you for the reply,

I have libsdl compiled with alsa support... still no luck,
it seems that every program without the alsa tag or a dependency with the alsa tag wont detect my audio device...
