hi, i m in the process of installing gentoo on a brand new ibook i just bought.
well i'm having a lot of problem but still i m learning a lot with them. the main glitch i've been running in is with the latest ppc iso. in the first place i wanted to use lvm, then i tried with only 2 partitions and finally i tested with one big root partition in ext2. Everything goes quite well, and sudently when i bootstrap, the process fails with kernel oops talking about a filesystem bug, trying to access a block beyond filesystem limit (ext2 & ext3 same pb) and trying to free free buffer and so on.
right now i'm trying to bootstrap with an older iso and a 5 gigs root partition and it seem's that the problem has not showed up yet. So this could look like a bug in the kernel of the initrd of the latest iso (while a cat /proc/version tells me that it is the same eg 2.4.19-r2). i will inform you of the continuation of the process.
while i m here what are the best make.conf flags for a G3 ?
i'm having a problem with the keymap, trying to load anything different than the default causes the enter key to function improperly, the keymap keep unchanged and being unable to revert to a us keymap.
thank for any responses you could give |

I've conclusively found that problem to be linked to using the 2.4.19-r3 kernel from the ISO.
I actually had to install YDL 2.2 to get an appropriate compile environment setup. Once I had that installed, the bootstrap, and emerge system processes all completed successfully.
It sounds like maybe 2.4.19-r4 has this problem fixed. |
