well, i assume you havent read any kernel documentation.
but as i am a nice guy and pissed off other people for not helping me i think i shouldn't ignore others, hehe.
what you are looking is probably initial initrd support what needs to be compiled into the kernel. in block-devices -> initrd.
have fun,

Hmm i only see ramdisk support here, and i have allready enabled that. Well what i need are the initrd tools. I hope we are talking about the same kernel here, i've got the 2.4.20-pfeifer-r1 kernel. _________________ There is most certainly a hell

when you enable ramdisk support you will get an option to choose initial initrd |

Well if you would be right then i would have an initrd image in my /boot directory right, because how the hell should i configure lilo then with a ramdisk???
Well anyway that's how it goes in debian linux GNU..
Hmm why can't i find mkinitrd??? _________________ There is most certainly a hell

Is there anything in particular you want in your initrd ?
I think most Gentoo folks don't use initrd because it is easier to just compile the right stuff into your kernel. |

well, i'm with the same problem as blade182, and initrd its necesary for do some changes with the frame buffer and I found that I haven't /boot/initrd unless to compile the kernel with this option.
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=49036&highlight=mplayer+speed
Code: |
/sbin/splash -s -f /etc/bootsplash/default/config/bootsplash-1280x1024.cfg > /boot/initrd-1280x1024
|
I emerged mkinitrd but i'm not sure if its the way to solution this problem. |
