ata1.00: ATA-7 max udma/133 blah balh
ata1.00: ata1 multi count 16

ata1.00: failed to set xfermode ( err_mask=0x4 )

Try using the AHCI driver for SATA. Also, set the BIOS to put the SATA controller in AHCI mode. I have a motherboard based on an NVidia chipset. I couldn't get sata_nv to work right, but sata_ahci works great! |

Yes i looked and looked for the AHCI mode but for some reason i don't have that mode. I did try switching over to that driver without changing the mode and does not find any devices. |

anyone know why adding irqpoll to the boot line seems to resolve the issue? |
