Cannot su

I put this in Security because it has to do with security I guess, as in my system is keeping me out

I now have a nice lovely Gentoo setup that I like, but I have a problem...

I cannot 'su'.

I can login to the root account, but whenever I su, it asks for the password, and when I give it the password for root, it tells me "Permission denied".

I can't relogin every time I want to perform Administration tasks on my system. So.. I need to be able to su.

Thanks for any help that can be given.
