in windows if i press the www button it opens internet explorer. Is there any way to do that in gentoo ?

There's a program called "lineak" that can do this. You can find more information here: http://lineak.sourceforge.net/

You can also try xbindkeys. It comes with a detailed man page. To see if it will capture this keypress, execute: xbindkeys -k and then press the key. If you see the event identified, then you can enter the appropriate code into .xbindkeysrc, and an associated command.

Also supported are key combinations. I have CTRL+N tied to xmms so it advances the playlist.
