Posted: Mon Feb 25, 2008 1:28 pm Post subject: Ebuild Borland Interbase Database? |
|
|
Hi All,
I've got some software which uses Borland Interbase Database on desktop level.
I want my server to run the database for security reasons and stability but I can't find any ebuild or howto.
http://packages.gentoo.org don't have a search function.
Code: | emerge -s interbase
emerge -s borland |
Both shows me no result
On google I find some things but they are talking about firebird.
As we once had a terrible DB crash I needed to recover the DB. I send the DB to a company in the USA which fixed the DB and they told me there's a difference between Interbase and Firebird. So I'm a bit confused here.
Someone who can help me out? _________________ ...Unix, MS-DOS, and Windows NT (also known as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly). |

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Unsupported Software.
Not about getting gentoo installed, so moved here. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

Ok, thought it is about installing software on gentoo.
Didn't know it wasn't supported by Gentoo because the USE Flag; "interbase" does exists!! _________________ ...Unix, MS-DOS, and Windows NT (also known as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly). |

that use flag only adds support for the interbase database, not the dbms itself. There is firebird though, which is based on an earlier gpl'ed version of interbase. Perhaps that would work for you. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

Ok, so your advice is to give firebird a try?
Code: | # emerge -s firebird

It all depends on the s/w thats using the database - how tied it is to Interbase, and how much s/w effort there is to port it to firebird.
Also, its worth asking Codegear. Their website says interbase is supported for Red Hat / Suse enterprise. Doesn't mean it won't work with gentoo but it may be a struggle. There are downloadable trial versions of 7.5.1 and 2007. |

Well, I looked into it...
I got the message from the software developer of the software which uses the Interbase DB, that they will recompile the software to firebird DB. I just have to wait about a month. So I won't try the codegear solution.
Anyway, thanks for that tip as I didn't know about codegear... _________________ ...Unix, MS-DOS, and Windows NT (also known as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly). |
