Hi,
I give up - after googleing for the solution over internet and here in particular I can't find the solution.
I upgraded my kernel from 2.6.14 to 2.6.24. But after booting up I can't get my latin2 console font right, which makes cetrain accented national characters being displayed as an inverted question mark character. When I boot the old kernel all is back to normal, so it doesn't look like an /etc configuration issue. I did try to play with the framebuffer setings to fix it, but the result is the same regardless of the console size - 80x25 or any other.
`setfont -v lat2-16` doesn't report any error when executed from the command line. It does seem to work in general (the screen flickers for a split second at boot and the font face changes a bit) but the latin2 characters are missing though.
HELP !!
[ EDIT 20:59 ]
I moved a little step back to 2.6.22 and everything works like a charm. My wild guess is that the issue is rooted in the new vesa fb driver which has replaced the good old vesafb-tng. BTW: with 2.6.22 instead of 2.6.24 few other problems I was-yet-to-complain dissapeared (e.g. hw sensors problem) |
