|
|
Quote: | Code Listing 2.4: Checking integrity of a stage tarball
# md5sum -c stage3-i686-2007.0.tar.bz2.DIGESTS
stage3-i686-2007.0.tar.bz2: OK
|
I have done this check numerous times and I always get:
Code: | stage3-i686-2007.0.tar.bz2: FAILED
md5sum: WARNING: 1 of 1 computed checksum did NOT match |

I have tried downloading the files from multiple different sources and I have still not been able to pass this test. _________________ I want to compile a OS specifically for my hardware, how awesome is that. |

Have you tried downloading and verifying some other file of similar size which also has a known checksum? |

I just tried to install with the tarbal off the liveCD and that failed as well. What else could this be? _________________ I want to compile a OS specifically for my hardware, how awesome is that. |

memtest is a boot option from the livecd
where are you downloading the tarball to? is it to a directory where you have a disk mounted? or are you downloading it to ram? i've gotten that error before because i didn't have enough room to download/extract the tarball because i forgot to mount my partitions. _________________ Steve - Semper Fi |

[quote="JoelKlabo"]i did mount my partitions/quote]
He wasn't asking that. He was asking if you were downloading to the right partition.
If you mount the partition but don't "cd" to it before downloading you'll have the same problem |

It really sounds like it could be faulty RAM. Let memtest run at least two cycles and see if there are any errors. If not, we'll continue troubleshooting to find out why you're getting false checksums. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

i would try to tar -xvjpf stage3. directly without checking tha md5.
see where it stops.
md5sum has failed many times for me.but the stage3 has been extracted successfully.
as everyone has pointed out it can be mem problem in the lower address range.
else try downloading in windows boot.
if your download resumes many times due to net connection the download may not be alright.
it looks like it is not download problem as you cannot pass the cd stage3 itself.
try extract it without checking md5sum. _________________ reach out a little bit more to catch it (DON'T BELIEVE the advocate part under my user name) |
