AlphaPC 164SX, DMA is broken for integrated IDE controller cypress CY82C693 in new kernels (I've tested any from 2.6.22* to 2.6.24* provided by gentoo team)
Of course, appropriate controller and DMA support has been choosen.
Whan I try to enable DMA I get the error:
#hdparm -d 1 /dev/hdc
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
There is my dmesg:
Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 7.00alpha2

i cannot even compile 2.6.23-24 on my 164lx, didn't you have trouble?
the linux kernel is a nice thing, but on the !x86 platforms that are some serious problems in the final kernel releases from time to time.
do you really use the host protected area on that disk or is the driver confused? |

Yes, I've compiled that kernel with success, but after some "dances with drums around" how we say in Russia.
I disable all features unsupported by my 164SX. And the kernel succesfully compiled.
May be Gentoo alpha team can help us. |
