compiz and emerald don't seem to want to work right for me since a recent upgrade(the one where they changed the naming scheme)
compiz will fail, along with Emerald and CCSM won't work either

What error output do you get when you try to run it from console, that would be more helpful in diagnosing the problem thanx. _________________ Gankfest™ (>")> ~*

Hi all. Ender: I hope this is not a hijack of your thread. If so, someone should tell me and I'll start a new one.
I played with compiz-fusion two years ago and then abandoned it because I kept breaking stuff. I decided to wait until I could try again without overlays, layman, and other strangenesses. I noticed that with 0.8.2 we seem to be getting close, so I'm trying again. I have no overlay, but I added stuff to package.keywords that is identical to Enders. (Got got my list using brute force, with a series of "emerge -Dup" commands to find dependencies.) My system is amd64. I have a few things in package.keywords to permit the use of gcc-4.3.3 and a few applications, but that's it, other thanthe new stuf for compiz. My desktop is a plain old Gnome, using Metacity.
After successfully emerging compiz, compiz-fusion, and fusion-icon (all -Dup,) I tried to start compiz. This ha failed using every combination I can think of. When I run Combiz, compiz-manager, or fusion-icon from the command line, I always the error:
Code: | Error: Could not acquire compositing manager selection on screen 0 display ":0.0" |
My gut feel is that metacity refuses to play nice, but I have absolutely no idea what to try next. |

try reemerging dev-python/pygtk Better try emerge -auvDN world && emerge -avuND x11-wm/compiz-fusion

no google results on that error... ?congratulations...?
the only thing that I can think of is that the yes plugin is the yes command... try it in the console. |

it seems like this might be larger than just compiz, I think nothing that uses python works now, WICD stopped working at the same time, which also relies on python IIRC |

Hi,
Try the python updater, it may help.
Regards,
