Hello,

2 days ago i had a total hard drive crash.
Its devided into 3 partitions

/dev/sda1 -> boot
/dev/sda2 -> swap
/dev/sda3 -> /

The errors are located in the /dev/sda3 partitions.
I used the hirens boot-cd and started hdd regenerator.
It found (untill now 7880 bad sectors and fixed 7880 sectors) but the machine is running already 2 days.
And still has a gazillion sectors to go. So i gave up with hdd regenerator.

So, are there any other tools i could use ? (that are much much faster)
Or can someone tell me how to recover my packages ? (what is recoverable)
I really don't wont to compile everything once again.

Ive read somewhere that there is such an option :)

You might want to try to fsck if the harddrive is not too f***d up.
Recovering DOES take a long time :-)

Probably the best thing to do is to find a place where the disc could be recovered for a long time ;-) since it has gone bad you probably will buy a new one anyways.

Allright,

With the help of a boot-cd and quickpkg i was able to recover most of my compiled packages.
:D So after i get my new HD it should be no more than an hour to get everything running again :)

Side note tough:

It seems quickpkg world does not work. (World does not exists)
So i had to cd to /usr/portage and run something like quickpkg a*/* and replace that "a" with every letter a package name starts with.

quickpkg world should be a option !
