Although not exactly new to Linux I am new to gentoo , this is my first post. If I am posting this in wrong thread please let me know.
I have been trying to boot the live CD and the system hangs, it looks like when trying to enter desktop.
AMD 64
Asus MOBO
Nvidia fx 5200 G card
2 gb ram
I would appreciate any help I can get

The LIveCD is known to be buggy/problematic.
Go with the amd64 minimal instead and you should be fine.

You can either use the minimal installation disc, or the SystemRescueCD (which is based on Gentoo) as a live environment for installing Gentoo. The GTK+ installer is prone to err, and shouldn't be used. Later this month when the new 2008.0 version comes out, it might again be stable.
