|
|
I installed Gentoo on my system and was getting a Kernel Panic could not mount root. I chacks all the obvious things and it was all fine. I then remebered that I am booting from a SCSI hard drive attached to an Adaptec 29160 Ultra card. So I recompiled the kernel with AIC7xxx support compiled into the kernel, not as a module. I went to bot it up and it goes through the boot process and starts to load the SCSI driver. It sees the Hard drive and a HP tape drive then freezes with the following error.
Code: |
(SCSIO:A:3:1): parity error detected in data-in phase. SEQADDR(0xla2) SCSIRATE (0x95)
|
I then recompiled the kernel with the AIC7xxx old drivers and same thing.
Any suggestions?
Thanks |

I think this may have something to do with the AIC7xxx problems. When I compile the bzImage it gets to the AIC7xxx during compiling. it says something to the effect of exiting directory then gives an error 2 and then a command line. I am using the vanilla-sources. I have all the flags set to default and the cflag to pentium 3 since the docs advise not putting pentium 4.
Also, quick question. Do I have to have the SCSCI drivers built in to the kernel if I am using it for a boot and os drive?
System:
P4 2.4 ghz
512KB PC2700
Nvidia Geforce 3 128MB
34MB SCSI drive (OS drive)
2 160gig IDE drives
HP 40GB tape drive
DVD burner
Firewire and USB2.0
Also note that I compiled the SCSI tape support in also.
Thanks,

I am fairly sure you need the SCSI drivers in the kernel for it to work at all for booting. |

Fixed it. It seems my computer didn't like the Vanilla-siources. Compiled perfect and worked perfect with Gentoo Sources.
