So I recently installed gentoo on a new laptop and it went almost uncomfortably smoothly. I was pleasantly surprised when World of Warcraft worked in with minimal work. I'm getting a pretty decent frame rate with some fairly high settings. Anywho, some friends of mine still play openarena, so I get that installed and try to run it and I get this:
Code: | ...loading libGL.so.1:
Calling SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO)...
SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO) failed: No available video device
failed
----- CL_Shutdown -----
RE_Shutdown( 1 )
---------------------------
Sys_Error: GLimp_Init() - could not load OpenGL subsystem |
My user is in the video and games groups and I get the same thing running it as root (I know this is bad). I have no idea how to get this to work. I think I've tried everything in searches from both gentoo and ubuntu forums.
glxinfo | grep direct:

As an update, openarena for windows runs beautifully in wine, so I guess that's somewhat of a solution. I also guess I should have posted what hardware and software I'm running. I have a pretty new acer with a Core 2 duo processor and some intel chipset (ICH8 i think?). Graphics card is an Nvidia 8400 M with 256MB of dedicated memory. I'm running gentoo kernel 2.6.24-r3 (need if for my audio card) and nvidia drivers version 169.12. I'm getting the same error when I try to run tremulous too. |

Well I'm an idiot. Libsdl was compiled without X support. Added X to my use flags and viola! Games now work. Yay! |
