Thanks- Just tried to update the overlay on another box, and got this:
Code:
gentoo-audio rob # cd /usr/portage/local/qt
gentoo-audio qt # svn up
Skipped '.'

Never -mind- checked out a fresh overlay, ran the newsnap script, and am now downloading 20080401. :D Hope I can get this keyword/unmasking stuff sorted out. :wink:

OK- now compiling. 8) I just can't understand it- on this box it was no problem, but on the other (my main Gentoo kde svn box), it's always a struggle with the keywords/unmasking routine. Weird. :roll:

qt-assistant failed with a segmentation fault, after seemingto go along fine. All others compiled/installed OK.

I did an emerge --resume --skipfirst, and went on with the last 5 packages. Am I OK to go on with kde svn anyway, since the older qt-assistant is still installed?

EDIT:
Decided to try qt-assistant again, and it compiled OK- no segfault this time, so 20080401 compiles fine here. :)

Has anyone tried using this qt snapshot overlay for qt, and then building kde svn using the kdesvn-build script (using the optional disabling of the trunk qt-copy version pulled in by the kdesvn-buildrc config file)? I've been using kdesvn-build and it's provided qt-copy on Arch Linux with pretty good results, but not with this snapshot overlay.

Gentoo is mandating going with Paludis for the kde-svn overlay soon (when they finish the split kde svn ebuilds), and some of us really don't wish to do that at this time, for various reasons. In my case, I have my doubts about migrating to Paludis just for continued access to kde svn. Also, mixing portage and Paludis seems like sort of a PITA, with all the re-syncing and seperate caches between the two.

That's because the current snapshots at ftp://ftp.trolltech.com/pub/qt/snapshots/ are for 4.4.1

The last one mentioned at that link that's for 4.4.0 was 4.4.0-snapshot-20080325

Finswimmer,
IIRC, snapshot-20080330 should be 4.4.1_pre. Are you digesting the individual ebuilds manually?
What i do is extract a fresh overlay to .usr/portage/local/qt, and cd to that directory. If you have a recent overlay, and there is an update just do svn up in the qt directory.

Then I run (as an example)
Code:
./newsnap 4.4.1 20080401
and that auto updates and digests all the ebuilds, and IIRC, also downloads the new qt snapshot.

Then I run emerge -pv qt, and check all the USE flags.

Then just an "emerge qt" does the whole job.

Isn't that what you have been doing?
Several times, when things get weird, I've found extracting a fresh overlay resolves the issue.

Exactly. But I am using my own update script ;)
I have posted it here in this thread a while ago.

And manually the same thing happens...

No the problem is your ebuild.

Hint: If you name the ebuild 4.4.1 you shouldn't have the ebuild looking for a file with the version number 4.4.0

And if you're (as you alluded to) making the ebuild with an update script... obviously your update script is hard-coded to insert 4.4.0 in the URL

Hmm. After rm qt, svn co..., running my update script everything works.

Strange....
Thanks anyway

enzobelmont,
I always go with the latest snapshot available, as I figure that's the main objective of running svn versions.

Finswimmer,
Sometimes I get the impression that just "svn up" doesn't always work out well, and it's better to go ahead and do a complete new fresh download and extraction.

Finswimmer, you probably had old not digested ebuild
if digest is absent then portage will try to download files and digest them.
so when digest new ebuild and you see it tries to download old files, try to remove old ebuilds

kdebindings needs PyQt4 for superkaramba; PyQt4 needs qt-4.3.4-r1, but i've installed qt snapshot 4.4.1_pre20080401.

Code:
# emerge -pv PyQt4
 * Overlay eclasses override eclasses from PORTDIR:
 *
 *   '/usr/portage/local/layman/kde/eclass/kde4-base.eclass'
 *   '/usr/portage/local/layman/kde/eclass/kde4-functions.eclass'
 *   '/usr/portage/local/layman/kde/eclass/kde4-meta.eclass'
 *   '/usr/portage/local/layman/qt/eclass/qt4.eclass'
 *   '/usr/portage/local/layman/qt/eclass/qt4-build.eclass'
 *
 * It is best to avoid overridding eclasses from PORTDIR because it will
 * trigger invalidation of cached ebuild metadata that is distributed with
 * the portage tree. If you must override eclasses from PORTDIR then you
 * are advised to run `emerge --regen` after each time that you run `emerge
 * --sync`. Set PORTAGE_ECLASS_WARNING_ENABLE="0" in /etc/make.conf if you
 * would like to disable this warning.

afaik there's no PyQt for Qt-4.4*, but only 4.3.. I guess because 4.4 it's still a beta...

Did you try adding this to your make.conf?

Code:
LDFLAGS="-Wl,--as-needed"

And then rebuilding qt and PyQt (I am not sure what else this would break).

This debian changelog explains the problem (under 4.3.3-2)

http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/p/python-qt4/python-qt4_4.3.3-3/changelog

I am just trying and Ill let you know if it works

EDIT : It didnt work, I got a different set of errors.

Just finished updating to 20080402, and kdelibs, kdepimlibs, and kdebase (r792908-r792945), with no problems. :) 20080402 seems good to go. Will post if I run into problems on any kde svn package.

UPDATE: All 16 of my kde svn packages I use compiled/installed against qt 20080402, no problems. :D

Hmmm. Spoke too soon. :? On reboot, kdm or console login can't start kde-svn, xfce4, or icewm as user or root. Can't start kde-svn from console as root, but can start xfce4 as root only. Is this qt snapshot or kde svn related?

As user, I tried:
Code:
xhost +localhost
and get
Code:
xhost unable to open display ""
When I try anything from console, I get
Quote:
$DISPLAY is not set or can't connect to the X server
Here's the .xsession.errors file:
Quote:

Any ideas on what to try next? maybe recompile qt, kdelibs, kdebase? :? All /etc/files like hosts and hostname seem normal.
All I did was recompile qt and kde svn, and try and restart kde. 8O

EDIT: Weird. I changed the login manager to gdm, and I can boot as my kdesvn user just fine. Kde svn seems to be running fine, but something has to be wrong with kdm and/or related stuff. Anyone having this trying to boot with kdm? I'm thinking this is the main problem, but am not sure:
