Hello!
Emerge libsdl an app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-sdl.
I don't know if you need these two.. but i have both install.
Regards Chris
P.s: On libsdl, take care to set the opengl Useflag.

libsdl is installed and with the opengl use flag:
Code: |
media-libs/libsdl-1.2.11-r2 USE="X alsa opengl oss xv -aalib -arts -custom-cflags -dga -directfb -esd -fbcon -ggi -libcaca -nas -noaudio -nojoystick -novideo -svga -xinerama" 0 kB
|
This a 32bit install and not 64bit so don't think i need emul-linux-x86-sdl, and yes i did install it with the ebuild.
It was working sort of with sdl use flag but it kept seg faulting after few minutes of playing i tried adding sdl to make.conf and rebuilding with newuse but now it won't start at all which where the first post starts. _________________ Work Station - 64bit

libsdl is currently on 1.2.13, so updating it might help. You could also try running revdep-rebuild in case it's missing a link somewhere... |

Thanks for reply, i will try adding libsdl to package.keywords but sure that will make a difference.
I think this a bigger problem then just etqw

Well if glxinfo/glxgears are giving you problems then it's probably not an SDL issue. It's possible that your version of nvidia-drivers is corrupt somehow, or that there's something wrong in your xorg.conf. Could you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf? |

Thanks for reply, ok got it working by emerge latest sdl and re emerging the nvidia-driver, most likely it was a re emerge of driver that did it.
Still have issue of game se faulting after minutes of playing?
Gives no reason, game just stops and last line on console says 'segmentation fault' ?

Code: |
Beelzebub joined the GDF
snd_pcm_writei 4096 frames failed: Broken pipe
preparing audio device for output
Segmentation fault

Emerge libsdl an app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-sdl.
I don't know if you need these two.. but i have both install.
Regards Chris
P.s: On libsdl, take care to set the opengl Useflag.
Edit2:
Source: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-676166.html |
libsdl is installed and with the opengl use flag:
Code: |
media-libs/libsdl-1.2.11-r2 USE="X alsa opengl oss xv -aalib -arts -custom-cflags -dga -directfb -esd -fbcon -ggi -libcaca -nas -noaudio -nojoystick -novideo -svga -xinerama" 0 kB
|
This a 32bit install and not 64bit so don't think i need emul-linux-x86-sdl, and yes i did install it with the ebuild.
It was working sort of with sdl use flag but it kept seg faulting after few minutes of playing i tried adding sdl to make.conf and rebuilding with newuse but now it won't start at all which where the first post starts. |
you don't need to use am64 to use these ebuild's
These ebuilds lay out the system in a gentoo-friendly manner - try using the data and client ebuild
in glxinfo you have directrender == true so the drivers are (kinda) setup YET libSDL is falling over
what is the output from
uname -a
emerge nvidia-drivers -vp (or pmerge nvidia-drivers -p)
ldd /opt/etqw/etqw-rthread.x86 <= assuming you have used the ebuilds to install ETQW, if not do the ldd command to where yr binary is
ldd /opt/etqw/etqw.x86 <= assuming you have used the ebuilds to install ETQW, if not do the ldd command to where yr binary is
Also when you launch are you launching via the wrapper script and NOT via the *.x86 file right? _________________

right can look at this now (weekend \o/)
what does
ldd /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0
show
Code: |
jrb@FluidMotion ~ $ ldd /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0
linux-vdso.so.1 => (0x00007fff4a5fe000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x00002b0b6077d000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00002b0b609fc000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x00002b0b60c01000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00002b0b60e1c000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x0000555555554000)
|
Its odd that the rthread one crashes since it ships with its own (patched) SDL so that threading works.
Which means it is prob something a bit deeping into your system that is playing up
try doing a revdep-rebuild recently
ALso has part of yr toolchain (gcc,glibc,binutils) has a major bump recently (meaning a emerge - system may be in order)
It may be worth re-building all of libSDL's dependacies
pquery --attr alldepends libsdl
lists them (I have had to rebuild all the dependancies of a package before for it to stop acting stupid) _________________

pquery is part of pkgcore a gentoo-portage drop-in replacement (works really well and FAST!!!)
see the link in my siggy or emerge pkgcore
to get you started: pmerge -s installed -uDp will update your system
anyway I was more interested on what libsdl depends on NOT what depends on libsdl
in this case only quakewar the binary depends on libsdl but we can't go and re-compile quakewars now
also quakewars threaded ships with a pre-compiled/patched libsdl so it can't be libsdl itself that is the root of the problem
iD/Splashdamage actually compiles their binaries REALLY concervativly for linux (something like for a p3 or something) because the windows version is compiled with intels C-compiler (ICC) and uses some nasty hacks for the SIMD stuff, hacks that don't translate to gcc
So the key is to re-compile everything (short of the system profile) that libsdl depends on (at least the 1st layer)

shows everything libsdl needs to compile and run (omitting system profile stuff)
if you:
nano /usr/portage/media-libs/libsdl/libsdl-1.2.13.ebuild (or whatever version you are using
you will see what it needs:

Thanks for reply, not ready to try another package manager at the moment though the other one works fine.
I re-emerge all the those packages including etqw.

ok last couple of things otherwise I am seriously stumped
1)
mv ~/.etqwcl ~/.etqwcl-orig
and then start the game, you won't have any of your config or such but just join a game and see if it crashes
if so it is something in yr config that is causing an error in the QW binary to seg
if that is the case
2)
rm ~/.etqwcl -rf
mv ~/.etqwcl-orig ~/.etqwcl
and
seta r_useIndexBuffers "1 _________________

Creating new .etqw folder has cured the problem, though what was amiss i don't know ? _________________ Work Station - 64bit

I just want confirmed, that i get this message and issue after set up a widescreen TFT. I changed the Resolution in xorg.conf and build my nvidia-driver, the xorg-Server, libSDL new, nothing works.
Just deleting my homes etqw-config-folder (mv ~/.etqwcl ~/.etqwcl-orig), thx Naib!
On my search to a solution i fond much unsolved Thrads. With "Widescreen-Resolutions" (1440x900) and SDL_SetVideoMode. |
