re-authoring a PAL dvd to NTSC

Is there a howto somewhere that details how to re-author a PAL region 2 DVD to an NTSC region 1 DVD? I've got some old discs that I'd like to watch here in North America, on my standalone player.

I guess, if someone knows how to feed VOBs to ffmpeg or mencode, and also take care of all the other little files on a DVD, example command lines would be helpful...
