Hi,

Yesterday I tried emerge kde (while running gnome already), and after I left it alone for a couple of hours the system became unresponsive, so I decided to quit X and start over. Last night I did an emerge kde and just left it alone overnight. Thismorning, it seemed to be done, but kdm isn't in /usr/bin. I know a lot of stuff compiled and installed, but since I was asleep for most of it, I can't really say what happened. Running an emerge -p kde, I get the following results:

Code:
sandy@gen-pen sandy $ emerge -p kde

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R  ] kde-base/kde-3.1.2

And if I try emerge kde again, basically nothing happens. It just checks that I have it already and quits.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks,
Sandy

The kde ebuild is just a meta-ebuild that collects all dependencies into one package. So emerging it is very quick.

KDM is not located in /usr/bin, but in /usr/kde/3.1/bin/. Try "locate kdm" to see where it is. Probably some error in your paths, have you tried env-update?

However, if KDM is not installed, it is a part of the kdebase package, so that is what you need to recompile.

Yeah, just after I posted, I thought to myself "Duh, I'd better do a find for kdm and see if that brings up anything". So here I am in KDE (which is...uh...alright, I guess), and everything seems to be working fine. Yeah, I will have to env-update.

Thanks for the quick response!
