devfs and my soundcard

Hi!
I installed gentoo in my laptop but i have a problem with devfs. I dont have /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer
My soundcard module is maestro3 and ac97_codec.
I tried to install alsa drivers and I have the same problem.
Other question..
why modules.conf and modules.autoload.?
My modules.conf has the alsa drivers but they dont load..
modules.autoload load all modules at startup...

Please help!!
