|
I'm setting up an IMAP server for the first time and the connection seems exceedingly slow from outside my network.
When I'm inside my network the connection seems just fine.
I've installed uw-imap and have it starting from xinitd.
Has anybody encountered this before? |

I've lost the link, but it has to do with xinetd needing to connect back to the IP attempting to make the connection in order to start logging. If you are behind a firewall then the connection can't be made and it takes up to 30 to 40 seconds.
All I did was comment out the two lines in the imap config file dealing with logging and then my mail program connected right up. |

Excellent thread and solution.
I would like to add that the stuff you need to edit is in /etc/xinetd.d/imap and friends. Comment out the log_onfailure and log_onsuccess lines.
This is for slow startup of uw-imap. |
