Hi.

I would like to have some advice.. :)

I'm using qt 4.4.1-snapshots_20080408 for kde-svn

Which on is the best to use:

- rc1 in portage

or

- rc1 in overlay with qt-copy

or

- Snapshots.

Any advice would be great :P

Thanks

Use the official tree ebuilds if you want support. Anything besides the KDE overlay is off-topic here though.

I got the following Error when I tried to emerge kde-base/kdebase-9999.4:
Code:
CMake Error: This project requires some variables to be set,
and cmake can not find them.
Please set the following variables:
QT_QTWEBKIT_LIBRARY (ADVANCED)

installing x11-libs/qt-webkit solved the problem...
but shouldn't be there a dependency for it in kde-base/kdebase-9999.4?

I have got dependency issues when trying to emerge kdebase:kde-svn: (last two lines):

It isn't installed, but emerge thinks it needs to be installed, since is in the list of packages. Which is the command which produced the output you show? I think that one of the packages which you want to install (or that are required by packages you want to install) depend on <qt-4.4.0, or something similar, so emerge adds qt-4.3.2-r1 to the list. Then, it finds kdelibs-9999.4, which requires the various packages corresponding to qt-4.4 and adds them too. And, of course, this creates a conflict. At a first glance, I can't suggest who is bringing that dependency on qt-4.3.2-r1 in. My suggestion is: try to mask all the versions of qt 4 up to 4.3.2-r1 and see what happens. If there are packages which require it, emerge will tell you which ones they are.

Give us a "--tree", to see which package insists on Qt-4.3.
Code:
emerge -pvt kdebase:kde-svn

i never used --nodeps
now i'm recompiling qt piece by piece, if i follow a strict order it compiles... mah 8O
i MUST follow this order: qt-core, qt-webkit, qt-sql, qt-script, qt-gui...
each time i try to compile a qt component it fails sayng that it needs another qt component
so i'm trying and trying and trying... and little by little i'm discovering the right order 8O 8O 8O

Since you don't seem to have any qt-4 packages installed, you should be able to do:
Code:

emerge -av qt

which should install qt 4.4 and all its dependencies in the correct order. I think there are some qt packages which aren't required by qt, such as qt-phonon and qt-webkit. If you need them, you can install them after having installed qt itself.

For the people as me, that can't build decibel, it has been moved from playground/pim to kdereview.
So you have to modify the ebuild as follow:
line 12:
- ESVN_REPO_URI="${ESVN_MIRROR}/trunk/playground/pim/decibel/"
+ ESVN_REPO_URI="${ESVN_MIRROR}/trunk/kdereview/decibel/"

I removed whole KDE3.5.x nad KDE4.0.3 stuff (as I said before :) ) - The only instance of KDE is right now kde-svn, I have notice increase in performance (I am using compiz-fusion).

I have problem with KDM, which do not allow me to log into the system. When I push CTRL+N (Console) then I can log into system and then type "startx" and voila KDE is starting with no problem, but KDM gives me an error sying that user or password is invalid?. Looks like problem with user authentication. I have recompile all... starting with soprano, kdelibs, kdelibspim and all the rest of KDE, still no change.
Any sugestions?

Please don't use the "meta" package, the package is only there, to satisfy broken dependencies and is highly deprecated.
Avoid, if possible!
And if you don't use stupid stuff like --nodeps, emerge and paludis should order the packages in the correct way.

Give us a "--tree", to see which package insists on Qt-4.3.

It seems to be strigi, but as far as I can see in the ebuild, it actually depends on anything greater that 4.3 :? .

It seems, that qt-dbus (-4.4) is masked.

a.b., why you don't enable qt4 use flag?
try to install qt-core and qt-dbus first

Yes, it was. After unmasking I can finally install kdebase.

I dont know anymore. What excactly does it actually do, triggering whether to use qt 4 or 3?

Thanks very much to anyone who helped me (or tried to)!

It activates qt4 support in ebuilds, if supported.
qt3 and qt4 use flags don't interact normally. So enabling qt4 normally doesn't mean, that qt3 is disabled.

I installed all the QT 4.4.0 beta 1 packages and reinstalled soprano, kdelib, kdepimlibs, kdebase,..
But now I'm getting a "could not start Kstartupconfig4. check your installation" when I start KDE 4
When it went back to the console it says: "kdostartupconfig4: symbol lookup error: kdostartupconfig4: undefined symbold: _Z34QBasicAtomicInt_fetchAndAddOrderedPVii"

I reinstalled Qt again but still the same. Deleting the .kde* folder didn't work too

Had same error, rebuild qt but not with
$emerge qt // it will only say that all packages installed.
$emerge qt-core ... all qt related packages, then
qca, qimageblitz, soprano, etc...
