Hi there,
A few days ago I bought a Club3D 7.1 DTS Agrippa Soundcard. This one has a C-Media CMI8770 soundchip that is officially supported by ALSA. Now there are 2 major problems that I cannot solve on my own even after fiddling around for hours an reading a HUGE amount of FAQs, forums, wikis etc.
1. When running Teamspeak2 my mates can hear my voice only VERY distorted. Although I can hear myself via headset quite good, TS seems to mess things up. It sounds like those demon voices you can hear on tv after midnight You can get the same effect if you record your voice and replay it slowly. This is no joke at all Starting TS with aoss solves the problem (although the sound is a bit "ploppy") but this is not a usable solution (see 2.).
2. I cannot hear sound in Quake3 when running TS in the background. Yes I know the problem with the OSS /dev/dsp device that is kind of occupied by TS. And yes, I did those "echo" commands that write into /proc/asound/something. This did help in the past when I had a SB Live!, but it doesn't seem to help now. I read through the cmipci (this is the alsamodule for the card) faqs and stuff and tried messing around with the .asoundrc file (I got 5.1 sound now haha) and I tried running both or one of the programms with aoss or esddsp in various combinations. It didn't help at all. Either TS will mute my headphones and mic by default or q3 will refuse to play any sound (cannot open /dev/dsp or simply no sound, but soundsystem seems to get initialized). TS with aoss and q3 with aoss works, but the sound in q3 is awfull and stutters. I even tried to send alsa to hell and use the new oss4. This enables both programms to play and record sound but TS produces problem 1. again Furthermore does the oss4 install/initscript break the alsa things.. the oss4 release is really bullsh*t haha.
Any ideas? Notice that I don't want to use arts. A friend of mine told me something about pulseaudio. Can this be useful?
Edit: Hm maybe this one fits better in the gamers forum. If a mod thinks so, feel free to move it. |
