|
|
Hi there.
This is a completly new setup, on a new computer, so i am sure i've missed out on something. The problem is, i don't what - and i cant figure it out. I need some help debugging this. Can i somehow make the kernel simply not die, or kind log the sequence, or whatever to let me know it's actions and failures.
Thanks. _________________ lunix.

i recommend to boot a live cd and check your grub setup, are the entries in the grub.conf right ? is grub coming up at all ? cant you be more specific what happens when you try to boot ? good look , cant be that hard ... _________________ I do not have a Superman complex, for I am God not Superman

Sorry for being unspecific.
Grub is fine, it boots the kernel. I'm on a livecd right now.
I got a tip on adding adding the "panic" flag to grub, which i'll try right after an system update. _________________ lunix. |

you said the kernel boots, so for what are you going to add "panic" useflag for grub ? i dont think grub is responsible after successful kernel loading.. _________________ I do not have a Superman complex, for I am God not Superman

It's not a USE-flags, it's a flag to the kernel, telling it to not reboot if it panics. _________________ lunix. |

Turns out it's not a kernel panic after all.
The computer simply reboots. Any way to log the occurance? _________________ lunix. |

What kind of hardware do you have ?
The rebooting thing can happen if you compile an i686 kernel, and try to run it on an i586 CPU ... |

There, i'm in an Ubuntu enviroment right now, seems to work fine, so it must be my fault.
I'll try getting the .config and copying it to the next Gentoo-installation. _________________ lunix. |
