I installed gentoo using newest downloadable livecd image. After installation I emerge gentoo-sources, I got new kernel source 2.6.24. Then gunzip -dc /proc/config.gz > /usr/src/linux/.config, make, make modules_install and change grub for this new kernel. After reboot, I found some modules missing and many warning messages.

Is there any good way to move from 2.6.19 to 2.6.24?

i don't see any make install or anything else to move the new kernel to the boot partition in there - i assume you did because you set up grub but just in case

2.6.19 is a rather old kernel release at this point; there have been significant changes since then, particularly in the disk subsystems. At the very least you should run make oldconfig before make, although with such an old config I'd really recommend redoing it from scratch.

And next time, don't bother with the LiveCD. Grab a recent stage from funtoo and do a proper install. It's worth it.
