Trying to set up another gentoo system on this machine, for mythtv so my wife can
copy tv shows. (god knows why, its all such crap) Any how, I set up a 10 gig partition.
Downloaded a stage3 (stage3-amd64-2008.0_beta1.tar.bz2) to the partition, and then
un-tar it. The tar fails with multiple errors, ending with " tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors"
I've down loaded a stage three from 2007 as well, fails with the same kind of errors.
I don't know what I'm missing, a tar file should be a tar file. I've tried several different systems
to un-tar the file and get the same error. I have down loaded the file from two different mirrors, and
md5sum runs fine against the file.
What am I missing?

Hi !
This is a bzip2-compressed tarball. How did you extract it exactly ?
The proper command is found in the Gentoo Handbook :
Code: |
tar xvjpf stage3-*.tar.bz2

jeanfrancis, thanks for the reply. That is the command that I
used to extract the tar ball. Again, Thanks.
I ran another mke2fs -j on the partition, and now it works.
Should have done that earlier. |
