I'm slowly moving my way over to linux, and one of my quirks is that I use whatever resources I can to find application uses within gentoo that I am familiar with already in another fashion.

Currently what I want my single gentoo box to do is everything your [insert favorite brand] router can do and configure it all via the web interface. I'd like to install/emerge an 'all-in-one' if you will that I can use to conveniently configure the most often used internet configurations for any given router. This may confuse a lot of people because you would think I loose the underlying purpose for linux, but from having such an application is how I learn. I go back and reference both parts to essentially figure out what commands are being executed to establish what environments..

Most people would be familiar with things like plesk and cpanel; whm and sphere. Back-end server configuration utilities that do everything you would normally do in a command line, but through a web interface.

The question is, does such a tool/utility exist? I don't necessarily want one program to configure eveyr aspect of my gentoo box, but I do want, explicitly, the ability to configure the routing and handling of said box. DMZ, DHCP, forwarding, etc etc.

Idea's?

I do not use it, but you could give webmin a try? (www.webmin.com)

With time, I eventually come to command line. It is far more powerfull, scriptable, you can save thing to further document and so on. I have configured SDH equipment down to firewall, and although sometimes rude, it is the only way to make it right. One have to know what one want, for how to achieve it plenty help is available

HTH
