well as the title states i cannot get eth0 working properly. This is my first time installing gentoo and everything went perfect....until now. I dont even know where to begin with this error. Help.

We need a little more info.
Did you install from a live-cd? Did the network work there? Which stage are you at? What does say? How about ? _________________ regards, Esben

Yes, a little more info would help.
Did you compile the driver in the kernel config as a module or built in? The livecd might automatically load the required module for you, but when you build a new kernel yourself, you have to include it manually. If you don't know which driver to use, check what the livecd uses.
'lsmod' is a very useful command.
If you're using DHCP, make sure you can access the DHCP server. Sometimes when my router isn't functioning properly, it will fail to receive a DHCP lease, and in that case not bring eth0 up.
