Ok, the new 2008 is out, my question is.... I'm running an Ubuntu live session, my windows boot no longer works at all... If I download the minimal CD on this live session, is there a way to burn it?

Disposition96,
If your Ubuntu live session is working, you can use it to partition your drive and install from the stage 3 tarball.
I suspect you would need two CD drives to burn an ISO from a live session, since the Ubuntu live session almost certainly cannot run from RAM to free your CD to be used as a burner. _________________ Regards,

Disposition96,
If you can't install Gentoo that way, you can't maintain it either and thats much more serious.
Stop reinstalling when something goes wrong. It has to be something really bad so its the only way out.
Its a bad habit you picked up from another OS.
Its a bad idea to trust random people you meet here with root on your box. You have no idea what they will install.
You can avoid that by sharing a non root screen session but that means you have to set it up. _________________ Regards,

As NeddySeagoon said, you can think of the Gentoo installation as an exam of aptitude, which will be useful to know if you qualify to use Gentoo or not. There's no need of previous experience with linux (I know a few newcomers that installed it with little problem). But you need to be willing to read, learn, and ask if you need help for a concrete step.
Use the handbook, follow it textually, read it and don't copy codes blindly without knowing what's going underneath (otherwise you are wasting your time). If you have a concrete problem, then ask. As said above: if you can't install gentoo, then you definitely can't maintain it, since all the basic procedures are shown in the installation proccess. |

Good call, I'm going to start from scratch one more time and see if I can get it to work.
