First time gentoo install. Long time linux user.

Installing on a laptop (Sony viao) with 1.4RC4. Doing a stage 1 install.

Everything has been going fine. After the bootstrap I edited the make.conf (PLEASE put vi in the base tarball in the future!!!) and added the packages I want to install via the use flags documented here. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/use-howto.xml After many packages compile and install fine, it attempts to emerge textutils-2.1 and fails with this error:

Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE! Value for $EPATCH_SOURCE is:
/usr/portage/sys-apps/textutils/files/textutils-2.1-gentoo.diff

ERROR sys-apps/textutils-2.1 failed
Function is epatch. Line 214. exitcode 0
Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!

I have gone to that path and verified that file is not present. emerge sync doesn't seem to help at all.

Any suggestions?

Jeff

Did you change anything in make.conf concerning portage? Because when I did, I couldnt compile anything. Better leave those dirs as they are. I mean, by default all portage variables are all commented, just leave them as they are

Hope it helps.

Hi GutShot,

When you get this error message, try "emerge sync" for a second time then "emerge -p system" and "emerge system".

It works fine for me, no more error messages!

Bye

Well, I rm'd the textutils dir and re-ran sync and it worked. Thanks for the pointers.
