I just did a fresh install... using the graphical installer on the DVD (maybe this was a mistake)
Everything installed fine... was actually surprised the graphical installer worked so flawlessly.
I'm currently trying to install and configure my graphics card... however there is no symlink in /usr/src...
How do I go about creating this symlink, which file am I linking it to? /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.23-gentoo-r8 ?
The reason I ended up at this step is eselect shows no kernels in the list.
Another question, does the graphical installer use genkernel? |

/usr/src/linux should point to the source code of the kernel. Currently, for the latest stable version it would refer to /usr/src/linux-2.6.24-gentoo-r4.
You can create the link with the following command:
Code: | ln -s linux-2.6.24-gentoo-r4 linux |

Looks like you haven't installed the kernel sources yet. There are different flavors (vanilla, tuxonice etc.) but most people use gentoo-sources. Run
Code: | emerge gentoo-sources |

Ok, that makes sense.
I used the graphical installer that came on the live dvd. I wonder what other steps were left out.... I'm thinking I should do a fresh install, by the book, just so I know what has and hasn't been done.
Thank You. |

I doubt any steps were left out... you don't need kernel sources just to boot. |

In order to boot you don't need the kernel sources but to configure your graphics card driver you probably will. |
