Hi,
First of all, thank you very much (for the authors of course:) for Gentoo! I love it!
And my question:
I have a big prob emerging MPlayer! It compiles fine only I cannot get it recognise gtk, opengl, sdl, xv and alsa. So no gui, no sound and no video output. Quite bad!
When, in a previous sysinstall, I had all the stage3 install USE defaults enabled, all things worked. But now, I told emerge to use only env and conf USE settings, in make.globals because I want to make a small sys without gnome and kde stuff. I have all the necessary libs emerged and the required USE parameters set (so gtk, alsa, X, xv, sdl and opengl among others) in make.conf, but it refuses to recognize them.
Can anyone, pleeeease help me?
Thx,

First, it is probably a good idea to make any changes to your setting in /etc/make.conf instead of /etc/make.globals. Setting in /etc/make.conf over-ride those in /etc/make.globals In this case, just add the line:
USE_ORDER="env:conf"
to /etc/make.conf. You can do the same thing with any other setting in /etc/make.globals that you would like to customize.
Second, concerning mplayer, when you do the emerge after unpacking the tarball and before the configuration starts, you should see a listing of the USE variables that portage has detected to use for this ebuild. Do you see gtk, alsa, X, etc showing up there?

Gee Tod, thanks a LOT!
It seems my Gentoo cannot recognise USE settings in make.conf, only in make.defaults. This settings-listing-before-build hint was the key to the discovery! Maybe a bug?
Anyway, thanks a lot once more!
Long live Gentoo and Tod!
