I'm getting these nasty freezes lately, they usually happen if I move the cube when the system starts getting slow (no idea why, it just starts hanging once in awhile). The weired thing is that I can still move the mouse - without any problems, and that if I move the mouse upwards (where my autohide panel is) it magically pops up on the frozen slightly tilted cube. If i click any button anywhere however, everything (except the cursor) freezes totally, permanently.

ctrl+alt+f4 or +backspace don't do anyrthing, I have to rseiub it every time, thank god thart command exists, linux without rseiub would be like windows without ctrl+alt+delete...

I also had some nasty experiences lately:

Without anything seriously being done on the machine, my 4 disks began to work like crazy, and quickly my system changed from very slow mouse to total unresponsivity. This would last for hours - until I issued the reset knob.

Once I managed to catch the beginning of this sequence and was able to have a quick glimpse at a shell terminal:
"top -i" displayed nvidia, some lib???.so.2 (sorry, I do'nt remember exactly any more), and firefox-bin - which I had not even started at all, because that moment I was using firefox natively compiled!

A very quick Ctrl+Alt+Backspace got accepted - it took minutes, but KDE went down -
and finally, arriving at shell level, the whole horror was gone like wind.

What I did:
- - got rid of nvidia
- - got rid of firefox-bin
- - recompiled all of the whole system with strikt CFLAGS="-march=k8 -O2 -pipe"
- - - ( before I had used "-march=athlon64" and "-mno-tls-direct-seg-refs", the latter being required for XEN )
- - - ( # Controls whether TLS variables may be accessed with offsets from the TLS segment register )
and never had this occuring ever again.

Sorry that I can not help with a more specific analysis.

P.S.:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-494331-highlight-gcc.html will shorten the time / amount to recompile drastically !

Later I remembered it was ld-linux.so.2 - and a glimpse about "segfault".
I checked the version: it was belonging to sys-libs/glibc-2.6.1.
But at that time, I had not issued any build at all!
Strange. Really weird ...
