I've tried out openrc 2.2 on my mythbox, i got the following error when running mythbackend
Code:
2008-05-04 21:22:23.957 Using runtime prefix = /usr
2008-05-04 21:22:23.960 Unable to read configuration file mysql.txt
2008-05-04 21:22:23.961 Trying to create a basic mysql.txt file
2008-05-04 21:22:23.962 Could not create /dev/null/.mythtv
2008-05-04 21:22:23.963 Failed to init MythContext, exiting.

Does this kick off the service under a different user or environment?

PostPosted: Mon May 05, 2008 11:53 pm    Post subject: net.* and modules Reply with quote

When I stop net.wlan0 this appears:

* Bringing down interface wlan0
* Loaded modules: ip6to4 dhcpcd udhcpc dhclient system pppd iproute2 ifconfig ssidnet wpa_supplicant iwconfig ipppd ifplugd netplugd macnet macchanger ccwgroup tuntap br2684ctl arping apipa

Where does this stuff come from? I have this line in /etc/conf.d/net:

modules_wlan0="ifconfig iwconfig !dhclient !wpa_supplicant !apipa !arping !tuntap !ccwgroup !macchanger !macnet ssidnet !iproute2 !pppd system dhcpcd !ip6to4"

Seems to work alright though.

Thanks,

Gene

It should have called /etc/init.d/functions.sh instead, which has always existed in Gentoo land.

OpenRC ships with support for all of that. If you're seeing this then you have that software installed. Or at least, OpenRC thinks you have.

modules_wlan0="ifconfig iwconfig"

Should be all you need. You could also get away with dropping ifconfig from that depending on your setup.

So far, Openrc has worked fine for me. Bootup seems faster, but since it's new I'd like to "see" what it's doing. Perhaps I overlooked something or searched with the wrong keywords, but how do I get Openrc to log it's output? And can I get Openrc to log by default?
All messages scroll by so fast, I can't tell if everything boots up according to plan.

Enable rc_logger in /etc/rc.conf and then look in /var/log/rc.log

Yes

OK, could be something else then
What does this do on your system?

Code:
(foo(){ :; }; command -v foo;)

Also, paste output of this

Code:
rc-service local stop; rc-service local -- --debug start

OK, I'm out of ideas right now.
Open a bug at https://bugs.gentoo.org about this please.

Not sure if the applies to openrc but here goes:

I uses several linksys routers with dd-wrt and wds. They all have the same ssid. However the main router is the only one that is full speed whereas the others are half speed because of wds. Is there a way to connect to a preferred MAC and fall back in the preffered one is not in range? Right now it looks like the behavior is to connect with the first in numerical order.

Sorry is this is off topic.

Thanks,

Gene

"Sabayon Linux" when booting up ;)

is that a "bug" or a feature ? :P

how to "fix" that ?

thanks

That should be fixed now.

Well, the Gentoo ebuild brands it Gentoo, so I guess the Sabayon one does similar.

The iwconfig script sorts by signal quality, and chooses the highest quality. I suppose we could sort by speed, then by quality.
I don't know if you can do similar with wpa_supplicant. Which do you use?
