Hi everybody,

I've got Gentoo on an Intel Core2 Quad with 4 GB RAM. I'm using -march=i686 in my make.conf since I didn't want to run into any problems with no-64 bit apps. In my kernel configuration I see two options for the "high memory support": either "off" or "4 GB". I've got it in "4 GB".

But Gentoo is seeing only 2 GB (although BIOS says there are 4, so no hardware problem here). Top says:

Mem: 2059192k total

Anybody knows how could I see all 4 GB?

And by the way: should I change my mind and want a 64bit system, how could I ahcieve that? Perhaps changing the -march flag in make.conf and recompiling the whole system? Could I expect any issues if I was to do that?

Thank you.

Try the HIGHMEM64G option or better use a 64 bits system.

Also make sure you enable memory remapping in your BIOS if there is an option for it.

Well, after reading your posts and the link that Dairinin provided, it seems to me that the best option will be for me to switch to a 64 bit system. Any documents out there with instructions on how to do a full switch without screwing up my system?
