Guys,

what function, feature or process allows the lcd screen to switch off after so many minutes/seconds when in terminal only mode?

I am building a lappy via ssh and notice that the screen stays on all the time - even when lid shut.

I can see acpi events when I cat events in proc but I have not configured anything there yet.

is this a simple request or will it come as part of a package I have not yet installed - wanting to do a minimal install on this box.

(intel pentium m)

I don';t want to burn the screen and would be happy to just have it go black - even if its by closing the lid - but I know that requires power management.

Blanking the terminal can be done with setterm -blank <number-of-minutesM>, setterm -powersave on and setterm -powerdown <number-of-minutesM>.
