I upgraded inkscape to v0.46-r2 when I heard about support for editing pdf files, however, my attempts to open and import a pdf file fail.
I installed inkscape with "gnome inkjar perl postscript spell" use flags.

Am I missing something when I emerge inkscape, or am I not opening the pdf file the right way?

PDF importing works for me

The release notes seem to say that you can only import PDF (not open)

Perhaps you can disable your use flags to mirror mine and try again?
My info -
emerge -pv inkscape:
[ebuild   R   ] media-gfx/inkscape-0.46-r2  USE="spell -debug -dia -doc -gnome -inkjar -jabber -lcms (-mmx) -perl -postscript -wmf" 0 kB

Just to be clear on the process for "opening" pdf files...

Open Inkscape, click file, import, change the filetype to .pdf, choose the file, and open?

My filetype menu has ai, eps, ps, among other filetypes found in 0.45, but not pdf.
When I select Show All Files, select a pdf, then Open, Inkscape fails to load the file.

I'll try disabling all the use flags for inkscape. Thanks for pointing me in a direction.
