Hi,
i just have tested doom3 on my laptop. Alsa doesn´t work so i switched to OSS but the sound interrupts permanently.
I just would like to ask if there is any tuning possitility within the OSS emulation layer in terms of increasing buffer size or something similar.

The system is amd64 pure 64bit.

thanks
Erdie

have you tried aoss yet? it doesn't work for everything, but some of the oss only games work under alsa with it.

Code:
aoss doom3
(or whatever filename) is all you have to do

maybe et-sdl-sound would work... for getting sound under alsa in games like et, q3 and rtcw, it was the only solution i could find. since this is also an ID game (and surely using the same horrible sound system) i think it might work. just go through the file and change a couple variables (like the binary path; it launches the game from within the script). i can post it here, but it's a very long bash script and i'd rather not flood your post if it isn't needed. try aoss first, and if i doesn't work (and it probably wont ) i'll post/mail it. googling et-sdl-sound would probably be fine too.

oh, but if you want to stick with oss i really don't know... hardly ever used it tbh.

Hi,

i did not try aoss yet, but thanks for this hint, i will check it. I am using the development version of the alsa snd-hda-intel drivers now, which works slidely better but not perfect.

Regards
Erdie
