I have Gentoo 2008.0 b2 installed. But noticed a few problems. Grub likes to hang on a reboot. It says
Code: |
starting stage 1.5
GRUB loading, please wait...
|
And just hangs there.
I did everything right. I even created the missing symlink from /boot/grub/menu.lst -> /boot/grub/grub.conf
And second.
It detected my first hdd as /dev/hdc and not /dev/hda like 2007.0 did or could it be i had my 2GB usb stick in that caused this.
Is there a way to fix this? _________________ AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ | 2GB DDR2 533MHz RAM | GCC-4.3.2 | Gentoo x86_64 | KDE 4.1.2 |

Eckos,
If you may have had your USB stick fitted when grub was installed, grub may be looking on the wrong disk for /boot.
That would cause the error you report.
Does it boot ok if you connect your USB stick before you boot ?
If so, you will need to get into the chroot and reinstall grub to the MBR.
You do not need to reinstall Gentoo because a new installer is released, thats all Gentoos versions refer to.
Everyone has a different gentoo because of the packages they choose and the USE flags they set.
Code: | emerge --sync
emerge world -uDNav | gives you todays Gentoo, with the exception of the kernel, which is configured and installed separately. _________________ Regards,
