Hi everyone
I have just finished installing gentoo and have problems with sound
I emerged ALSA using the documentation in this site and can play mp3 using 'mpg123' and VLC
but
there are no system sounds, pidgin sounds.
and I cant use exile - this is its error report:

Which WM are you using; KDE, GNOME, fluxbox, something else?

Oh I was stupid not to give this info
I am using Gnome on IBM- Pentium4 system |

Ok...good. Firstly, since you are having a gstreamer plugin problem, install them. On my machine, I use gst-plugins-base, gst-plugins-good gst-plugins-bad gst-plugins-alsa, and a few others. Emerge those plugins and retry.

I have listed in the first message in this thread all the gst-plugins installed on my system.

those that you suggested to install are already installed on my system. but still exaile cant play them.
also, there are no system sounds (is there any connection?). |
