Hi,
For some reason GRUB has stopped loading Gentoo properly. I've run my machine as a dual boot Windows/Gentoo for some time (although I never run Windows!). On starting the machine I have the option to load Windows or GRUB for Gentoo Linux. Until today everything was working fine (and had been for over a year...), but today, when I select GRUB. instead of going on to load GRUB and then gentoo, for some reason it just spews out "GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB" etc etc... and gets nowhere. I don't know why this should happen, but I did do an emerge world yesterday. Does anyone know what the problem could be and if so how I could fix it? I'm not an expert at all this although I am computer literate - please explain carefully what I need to do step by step.
Thanks
James |

Famous last words.
Whenever you update grub to a new version (which doesn't happen too often), you need to also reinstall it into the MBR.
Or, if you are using Windows as your primary bootloader, then you need to redo whatever you did to get grub working the first time.
ps. This should be easy enough to fix, by booting with a LiveCD, chrooting into your system, and redoing the bootloader installation steps. |
