search.php?search_id=egosearch and =unanswered (at least - have not tried the others) result in a weird dead string.
In konqueror - acts just like when I screw up php or cgi coding for myself.
telnet forums.gentoo.org 80, GET /search.php?search_id=egosearch <enter><enter> doesn't work - pauses for a while, and then ends. Same with others. GET / works correctly.
what's up?
EDIT: changed title to reflect second problem (possibly caused by this search nonsense)

I was just going to report the unanswered search being dead when I saw this thread. So, apparently, it is dead again.
Edit: egosearch seems to be working for me though.
Edit2: last search is also working for me.
Edit3: Since when has the "last" search only gone back five pages? Didn't it used to go back 10? |

well, not any more, but yesterday, things were centering weird, the two images up top were split slightly, and a few other slight formatting issues.
It's fixed now; I'm not sure if it was just something wrong with my stylesheet......

I wouldn't worry about that, it usually just means that the css file fetched by your browser got corrupted. _________________ KDE |

yeah... would also explain the occaisional completely blank page that I'm getting - refresh a few times and it's back.

I noticed that the "unanswered" search filter on the forums has ceased working as of about the last 10 minutes.
Thought I would just raise it in case it is not already known about.
I managed to get someone else on the IRC channel to confirm the same. |

The blank page you get when searching is due to it hitting php's memory limit, this is more likely to happen when there are lots of people using the forums which is why it happens intermittently. Unfortunately the only real solution is to get more RAM for the server which would mean we could increase the limit. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

Moved from Gentoo Chat to Gentoo Forums Feedback.
It worked here after waiting about 10 seconds. _________________ www.gentoo.org.au || #gentoo-au |

all I get is a blank page, although the page seems to load completely. Everything else on the forums seems to be working fine. Could this be something on my side (not that I've changed anything), or is this a known problem on the boards? _________________ He who calls for full employment calls for war! |

I had the same with "Posts since last visit" & "Post of the last 24 hours" - but now it obviously works again ... if it's a memory problem on the server there is not a lot to do other then adding/switching some memory and/or upgrading the hardware which sounds no fun to me :-/
Best regards and thanks for fixing it again

I think we should have a big FGO memory donation event... seriously, what kind do you need for whichever server is acting up?
We here wouldn't mind a short downtime to upgrade memory.

poly_poly-man wrote: | I think we should have a big FGO memory donation event... seriously, what kind do you need for whichever server is acting up? | The forum web server is a Dell PowerEdge 2650. It can use up to six modules of up to 2GB each, with an appropriate BIOS version, of DDR 266 (PC 2100) ECC Registered SDRAM. Presently all of the slots are occupied by four 256MB modules and two 512MB modules. |
