For me it was the main feature -
i've opened a discussion there » I'stay in hope » perhaps i should pray to the developers God

My E17 on the AMD X2 has some problems with other programms
i.e cinelerra-cvs starts with a lot of missing theme pictures
(i'll post some output next time i start E17)
But my old P4 1800+ 1GB RAM / IBM SCSI 120GB HWRaid10 (was an old Server)
is runnig well with E17
My doughter (7) loves this golden theme - all games for kidds are working well _________________ Never give up

This subject has come up before and the developers are not going to introduce that multiple desktops feature in e17. Reasons behind this decision are there somewhere in those mails _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

usable - not so far, but I found http://slacke17.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/slacke17/e_systray/ - not very impressive - but it means you can have systray in E17 _________________ nBVCXz

And what of the annoying "to me" habit of putting a desktop icon for every mounted drive on the desktop behavior? _________________ [Owner/Operator: Dhampir Dreams]

Additionally, it allows you to stack icons on top of each other. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

this is little off-topic, but:

As I hate 'ten thousand of daemons' working - my solution is simple:
if you need to automount only usb devices - it can be done only with udev (which is standard in most of distros)
my example is:
/etc/udev/rules.d/10-autousb.rules: |
KERNEL=="sd[a-z]", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="usbhd-%k", GROUP="users", OPTIONS="last_rule"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[a-z][0-9]", SYMLINK+="usbhd-%k", GROUP="users", NAME="%k"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[a-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/mkdir -p /media/usbhd-%k"
# ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[a-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/ln -s /media/usbhd-%k /mnt/usbhd-%k"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[a-z][0-9]", PROGRAM=="/lib/udev/vol_id -t %N", RESULT=="vfat", RUN+="/bin/mount -t vfat -o rw,noauto,flush,quiet,nodev,nosuid,noexec,noatime,dmask=000,fmask=111 /dev/%k /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_rule"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[a-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/mount -t auto -o rw,noauto,sync,dirsync,noexec,nodev,noatime /dev/%k /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_rule"
ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[a-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/rm -f /mnt/usbhd-%k"
ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[a-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/umount -l /media/usbhd-%k"
ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[a-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/rmdir /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_rule"
|
simple and clean / no other daemons required
and you can add more actions during pluging ipod eg. sync with ACTION command _________________ nBVCXz

I control a couple of devices through ivman,- usb devices, sd card, dvds, etc. I like ivman since it is desktop independent (I sometimes use kde for short periods of time). Right now I have it set up to interface with some of my own scripts which give me only the options which I want. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

I used ivman for a long time but since it doesn't update my fstab any more and my normal user can't unmount it using the unmount button in my filemanager (xfe), I switched to udev rules and it works perfectly
The udev solution is low-level and can be used with all DEs.
Since e17 is my main (but not my only) DE I prefer to use environment independent settings. |

Since e17 is my main (but not my only) DE I prefer to use environment independent settings. | The unmount button by default in any filemanager will call umount, whereas when devices are mounted through ivman, you are supposed to use pumount (mounting is done using pmount or pmount-hal). I have rox configured to unmount using pumount instead of umount.
Secondly, the whole purpose of hal+ivman combination is to be able to mount/unmount any device without having any entry in /etc/fstab and without modifying it either.
duckz wrote: | Guys how to make pulseaudio and networkmanager works in E17?. | I use knetworkmanager as the frontend. I believe some devs are working on a networkmanager frontend based on EFL, but it is not yet complete.
EDIT: I should add that simply mounting/unmounting is not the only purpose of ivman. It can be used to trigger differ programs depending on the (new) device (camera, dvd, cd, etc) that is added to the system. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

Hi everyone.
Decided to try an e17 only setup of Gentoo Linux and things seem to be going vary well. I have ran into a bootup problem, which I have a thread on, but it is not the fault of e17 or entrance. I was wondering if you all could give an update on the apps that can go with e17. Example is the entropy, which I'm having a bit of trouble finding info about.
Here is what I have so far, but no close to be done with this setup.
Dell C640
P4m 1.8 gig
ati 7900m
Linksys wireless (will be on this week, this will be a fun one)
Programs:
Entrance (not in full use till I get the xorg "xdm" boot problem fix)
E17
Audacious
gkrellm
k3b (compiling as I type this)
firefox
aslamixergui
I love the look but would like to play with the themes and get more apps for this thing. This is a playtop for my to try some new tricks with computers and I'm having some fun with it. As of now, everything seems to be working well.I'm post a screenshot with I have it finished. |

| Audacious -> amarok? (only if you like the features of amarok)
gkrellm -> conky? (though e_modules has a couple of basic additional system monitors)
alsamixergui -> gamix?
Other application suggestions (by suggestions I mean the applications I use ) can be provided depending on what else you want to do _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

I had to start with a fresh config since it used to segfault (whenever I enabled tiling on *only* one desktop) with my old one. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

Hi Everyone,
I followed "HOWTO e17" wiki and got it going. The question is there a way to change the font size? Fonts dialog in Configuration doesn't seem to apply the font size I choose.
Thanks! |
